After a great delay, work on the Ashes of Eradur LARP has resumed.  Current efforts are focusing on getting the book edited into a clean and readable form and filling in the missing details on policy and rules.

Following this, work will commence on fleshing out the Ashes of Eradur setting and world history.  We are hoping to run some smaller play tests in the Ypsilanti area this summer.

New update has most of the tags/equipment/crafting stuff we worked on uploaded.  A few bits on that need to be finished and refined, and the healing and armor layering rules need to be updated.

I've finally finished (mostly) the new toolchain.  The rulebook is now written in nice easy-to-read plain text that anybody could edit in notepad, and this is then processed and turned into the PDF.

With that done, I can now work on updating the rulebook without wanting to gouge out my eyes (working in raw XML sucks).  I have a bunch of notes sitting right in front of me to be typed up for the rulebook this week.  I told myself I don't get to eat any Japanese food until this is finished... so I should be finished soon.  I like Japanese.  Smiley

Preferably something within an hour or so of Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor, because I'm lazy.  Wink  A lot of people who are interested seem to be further north than I am, and I had poor turnout the last time I used Ypsilanti, so something further north might give us more people.

What general area do you want to playtest in, Sean?

We're held up until I find a decent place to host it at.  The only land I have readily availabel to me right now is too small and the ground is very uneven (lots of hidden holes and ruts in the grass) and we found out the hard way it's not safe to fight there. :/

I would like to participate in the next playtest.  Will need a time, place, and calendar date.
Also, anything you need me to bring would be helpful.

Generic fantasy is probably the closest match.  The core game play areas are modeled in many ways off the dark ages - the collapse of large-scale civilization being a core theme, along with the economical changes that brought.  From a costuming and technology standpoint, however, the game is based more on later period medieval times than the dark ages.  I'm not really aiming for any one period in terms of sources for ideas, though.  In part that's because I don't expect to be able to force people to make specific sets of garb just for AoE, so the guidelines for costuming to be strict enough to provide cohesive ideas for players who _are_ making or buying new garb for the game as well as allowing people to use their existing SCA/LARP/Faire garb with only minor modifications (possibly just in which accessories they bring).  If someone wants to play a character from the southern mountains, they should be able to know that those people dressed like (for example only) 11th C. Franc Villagers, not like a Roman or a Renaissance lady-in-waiting.  That said, the game is not set in a noble court, so the setting sort of dictates simpler and more practical commoner clothing rather than fancy court garb.  To help illustrate a bit better, the areas planned for play include: a trade output, a small town with a bard festival, and a rural area.

I'm putting this here bacause the answer will pertain to costuming, but what is the general setting for this game? Sean, I know on the Kanar board you said it was going to be a "dark ages" type of setting, which I interpreted as early middle ages. Is this correct, or are you going for "generic fantasy LARP"?
